How many days are your guided hunts? That all depends on the client's needs but more importantly, the budget. Because of cost's associated with an Outfit, we do have a 3 day minimum booking rate. This ensures our Outfit can cover the necessary costs like licences, permit fees and insurance rates, plus cover the guides pay and like any business, the outfit itself needs to make money. We currently offer 3 day, 5 day and 7 day hunts, but can usually accomodate longer periods if available and it meets the clients budget.

Why are guided hunts so expensive? To most DIY hunters, beginners and even those who have hunted their entire lives, seeing the prices of a guided hunt may make your jaw drop. Most Outfitters will never explain where all the money goes, and that makes most potential clients think that they are "rich", but our Outfitter is different, and he prefers our clients know how it all works. The money you pay as a client goes to many things, but to break it down just a little, heres the jist of what an Outfits expenses are. 1. Insurance - Outfitters in the State of Utah are required to carry active liability insurance in order to be a licensed Outfit. The cost of insurance is based off of annual gross income, so therefore, the more money an Outfit brings in, the more the insurance costs. 2. Permit/License Fees - In order to Guide Clients on Public Land in Utah, Outfitters are required to apply for and recieve the necessary Special Use Permits from both the Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management, depending on where you are guiding, which unit and which district you actively Guide on. The costs of these permits are also contigent on annual gross income but also the amount of days the Outfit needs the permit for. 3. Taxes - Everyones favorite thing to have to pay, and the one thing that all Americans have in common! The Outfit needs to set aside funds from each hunt to cover their taxes at the end of the year, just like any business as that is what an Outfit is, a business. 4. Guide Fees - Outfitters hire on Guides because as an Outfitter, they can't take every client they book on a hunt. So depending on the experience level of the Guide, he/she makes a wage. It can be a daily rate, or a "per hunt" rate. But generally, a Guides pay takes anywhere from 25% to 35% of the entire hunt cost. This not only keeps the Guide Happy, but helps cover food, fuel and the time the guide spends on the mountain during the hunt, as well as the pre season scouting. Unfortunately, guides have bills too. 4. The Outfit/Outfitter - Lastly, The Outfit, as a business, has to show an income to stay a business, and the Outfitter needs to make a little money to cover his own expenses. Just like every business, the owner makes a cut at the end of the day, for if not, there would be no business itself.

What's the point of booking a guided hunt? This is probably the most asked question our Outfitter has been asked throughout his career and a question almost every client should ask! There are many reasons to book, so heres 3 of some of the more important reasons. 1. Time - Guides and Outfitters generally spend more time in the mountains than just your average DIY hunter. This means they see more animals usually but can also keep track of target animals for their clients throughout the seasons. The time spent by the guide saves the client time so to speak. This way you can spend more time with your family, and more time at work without having to sacrifice family and vacation time. 2. Knowledge - Alot of times, clients book because they are either from a different state or have never hunted a specific unit but drew a tag for that unit. Our Guides know their areas better than most, which puts the ball in the clients court! Booking a guided hunt definitely improves a clients chances of not only seeing animals, but also gives the client a higher opportunity percentage than going into an area with no knowledge. 3. Safety - For out of state clients mainly, saftey plays a huge role in any hunt. Booking a hunt means you won't be traversing the mountains alone in unfamiliar country, and gives your family and friends peace of mind knowing that you are with someone else. All our Guides are required to not only be licensed and knowledgable, but they are required by the Outfitter to have a current First Aid and CPR certification through a state approved provider like The American Red Cross. Our guides are also required to carry basic first aid kits with them, as well as some form of communication whether that be a Cell Phone, Sat Phone or GPS System with communication capability.

Can I request a certain Guide for my hunt?Alot of our clients are considered repeats as they have hunted with a certain Guide no matter what Outfitter they worked for at the time of their previous hunt. So we get asked quite a bit if they can be teamed up with "Guide A" or "Guide B" during their hunt. Our answer is, OF COURSE! Now, this depends on the availability of the Guide you prefer, but as long as they are available, we will set you up with them.

How does booking and paying work?Generally, like all Outfits, we require a 50% deposit to book your hunt. This deposit is non refundable, and the remaining balance of your hunt is due no later than 10 days prior to the start of your scheduled hunt. Paying after the final balance due date is subject to late fees if the Outfitter decides. If you need to pay after the 10 day deadline, just contact our Outfit and we are always willing to work something out. Also, after the initial deposit is made, we are fine with setting up payments for the remaining balance as long as the balance is paid in full before the 10 day deadline. You are also more than welcome to pay your entire balance in full at the time of booking if you so choose.

I can't make my scheduled hunt, can I get a refund?"Unfortunately, hunt deposits and balances are non refundable no matter what Outfit you book with. Most Outfitters won't tell you why, but we like to be upfront with everyone. The Deposit you pay is usually long gone and spent within the first few days after you book. This money goes to the necessary permit costs, insurance and other costs associated with our pre season work like gear, gas and food while our team is scouting for your hunt. But, we also understand that some things are out of our clients control, and plans can change in an instant. So in the event that you have to cancel your hunt, we will honor your deposit for the following year including any money you have paid beyond your initial booking. In the off chance that you can't make it the next year, contact the Outfitter and explain and he may work out a deal to make sure you're taken care of.
-
I didn't kill an animal, can I have a refund?"No............It's called hunting, not killing.

Is food included in my hunt booking? Some of our Guides and the Outfitter used to include food in the costs of their hunts, but, some of y'all hardly eat, meaning the Guides spent way to much money on food and it went to waste, which is wasting money. Some of y'all can eat like it's open season at a buffet and the Guide may not of bought enough food, meaning he now has to spend even more money which in turn takes away from his wages and it doesn't keep our Guides very motivated haha. So, we always encourage clients to bring their own food, or bring extra cash and we will take you to the grocery store to grab the groceries you want. Or, if you want us to take care of the food, we charge a flat rate of $200 more on top of your hunt to cover your share of the food. We have had mixed reviews over the last year on if this should be standard or if this is "Normal". Well, we ain't normal, but, regardless how the food is handled, we all cook together and eat together, just like you would if you were hunting with your friends! And if your lucky, the Outfitters wife may show up to cook everyone some of the best Cast Iron dinners you'll ever have!! If you drink beer or alcohol, its BYOB. We just ask that you drink at camp, not out hunting haha.

Do you provide lodging, transportation, weapons to use?"If needed, we can provide lodging which includes wall tents with stoves and cots, or camp trailers depending where we are hunting. If you prefer a hotel, you are responsible for the associated costs but we will help you book and make sure you are picked up and dropped off each day safely. Transportation is covered while you are here, but you are responsible for your own travel costs. If you are a resident of Utah, you are responsible for getting to the designated camp, and if you are a non-resident, you are responsible for your flight to and from Utah, but we will pick you up and drop you off. Please bring your own weapons for your hunt. That is all on that subject ;) Travel during your hunt will be via Truck, ATV/Side By Side or Horseback depending on where we are hunting and the type of hunt you book. We do not allow any drugs or alcohol in our vehicles or anytime during transportation.
